Creating a joint at verticles

Hi! 

I'm in the process of creating a joint a each verticles of a geometry that I made.

Everything was going well until I tried to create a line between the existing verticles and the newly created points that correspond to the extremity of the joints. It basically just connects random points ...

I would just like to have simple 'Y' joints at each corner of the prep.

Any idea why it's not working?
