algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hal, Toy Robot Arm, Dremel

Hey all,

So question here. Now thoroughly enthralled with robotic arms/hal, I want to do it! 

So my question is, is it possible to use a toy robotic arm like this one: http://www.robotshop.com/en/lynxmotion-al5d-pltw-robotic-arm-kit.html, affix a rotory tool to it, and machine foam?

Or better yet, can I just cnc my own robotic arm from some plans, and do it for cheap?

Is this possible, anyone do this?

Instead of buying a $50 dollar plastic arm, spending a little more money (300 or so...), but short of the 30k for a ABB arm and milling foam on a rotary table.
