Curve on surface? Trying to mimic moulding a sheet material

As the title states, I'm trying to mimic moulding a flat material, where I define the profile of the flat material, as well as the mould surface. 

The idea is to design 2D pieces, but visualize the finished product (a moulded sheet). 

I had thought that mapping the 2D curve defining the material to the mould surface would accomplish this. As you can see, however, something is lost in translation.

Hi.

Your target surface has uneven U&V domain. "Rebuild surface" would help.

Check attached. You'll need "Lunchbox" plug-in.
