Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Grasshopper consumes huge amount of memory after it is started.

It seems that the memory usage will jump significantly once Grasshopper is open in Rhino, as shown in the memory use chart below. The entire computer becomes very very slow. Once GH and Rhnio are closed, the memory use will drop to normal level.

may I ask how this happens and how to reduce the memory use by GH?

Thank you!

After GH is open in Rhino, memory use rises up to available limit:

GH will not load files unless you tell it to. It will load all plugins and user objects though.

If you start Rhino and then run the GrasshopperDeveloperSettings command, does that lock too?

Dear David,

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I can run the GrasshopperDeveloperSettings command which doesn't lock Rhino:

However, when open GH, the same issue happened, and I manage to get the canvas fps test result which is very very low:

The GH interface is flashing on the screen, too, as if it is been turned on and off constantly .... I'm not sure why GH interface is been redrawn in such a slow rate and strange way ...

Hope you can kindly advise what I can help to do to get to the bottom of this issue.

Thanks for the additional info and recordings. I'm trying to drag some other McNeel people into this, maybe they have a better idea about where to go from here than me.

Dear David, I'm encountering the same problem on another computer. This time GH takes very long time and almost all the memory to just start. This happened after I used a few GH files with relatively large data sets embedded in some of the data and geometry components.

I've send you a private message so we can set up a remote session.

Hi,

I've recently encountered the same problem with memory ramping up to full without any grasshopper document loaded. This started happening after grasshopper crashed during a heavy computation, so it may have something to do with trying to load this previous file. I've tried opening with the solver locked but it hasn't helped.

Your screen captures show you are using something called "Rhino 5.0 Corporate" - which I believe indicates you are using a pirated copy of Rhino (The only kinds of Rhino licenses/installations that exist are "Rhino Educational" and "Rhino Commercial" - even a corporate customer with a zoo license still sees "Rhino Commercial"). If you are using pirated software then all bets are off with strange behaviors. Buy a legitimate license and don't waste David's time troubleshooting cracked software.

Dear Andrew, Thank you for the reminder! It is not right if the license been used is not valid. We need to check and correct it, as we did purchased a valid license.

Hi,

I had the exact same problem a few months ago. I created a new windows session and it also solved the problem for me. Now I am experiencing the problem again. Any news on how to solve this other than creating a new session?
