Keep points with higher z value according to their xy position

Hello, I'm trying to do something that seems easy but cannot figure it out. I have group of points with different x, y and z values. I need to recognize those points which have the same xy values, and keep just the one with the higher z value. The image on the left shows the points, the ones coloured in green have the same xy coordinates but different z value. On the right is what I need, keep all the points with the higher z value, and in case there is more than one point with the same xy position, the one with the higher z value.

Thank you !!

Here is one possibility.

Sorry, I was lying in bed thinking about my "solution" and realized that by an unhappy accident, it worked only because I had partially sorted the points when I swiped through them. Below should be an improvement.
