algorithmic modeling for Rhino

3D model [ with textures ] - from google earth or similar.

Hi guys, i´m wondering if exist already any approach that allow us to extract 3d models with textures if possible in high definition high-poly [city buildings] from google earth or similar, using grasshopper & Rhino.  I already explore Cadtoearth for rhino but definitely it's not what i'm looking for.

Thanks in Advance.

Hello Joaquim,

The only relevant thing I found when searching for something similar was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk_sQun48X0 but I think it only works for terrain and it is definitely not high-precision.

I don't know if there is some other way for buildings...

Hi Nikos

Thank you for your reply. I  know this stuff, once i think I already run all the web searching for this topic. Cadtoearth for rhino allows us to preform on similar stuff, however without textures. I need the textures of the buildings. There are some stuff on web like Acute3d or Aero3dpro Esri CityEngine but they are not full operational, I guess this is really relevant topic. The best way i found so far it´s in fact 3D photogrammetry technology but it´s a technology pretty unusual to found on web .

ok, you are way ahead of me in this search :)

If you do find some working solution please post back here, as this is an interesting subject.

Cheers,

Nikos

Sure, I will keep you posted, but as i see so far it's almost impossible, and this is pretty annoying! :)

I would use google maps. you can get any view you want, copy and paste the texture to any basic Architectural Building shape. Top view, Side views, etc.

or use 3d warehouse its full of these type of creations:

Hi Kim,

Thank you for your attention. This option it´s not good, since it is not very accurate. We could use this approach but it´s hard to georeferencing,  we could try Sketchup for that, but the result are really bad, [ low poly - really low quality texture] and there is no option to import multi-building, I think it just don´t make sense, however it seems to be the only option available at the market, at least immediately once the others ones that I pointed in the comment above  are not  full operational.

Hi Mohamed,

Thank you for your message, I´m afraid that Heron cannot deal your textures. And what interest me the most it´s in fact the 3d textures model result.

Heron can give you the texture(mesh) of the 2d map

Google have a download service which allows you to choose an area, and they send you files of that area, i tried it for shape files

try to contact them and ask for the 3d textured google map data!! I didn't try before

Mohamed,

Could you indicate the link for that process ? I believe this approach could not work once google  block the google earth service[ I mean on extract geometry to other software platform] The best way I tryed so far, it was with a 3d photogrammetry technology but once i´m capturing low resolution images as input, the final result [ mesh ] was not so interesting.

I see, this data is older, an it´s broken, since trimble acquired Sketchup in 2012. I guess this data was to work directly with Sketchup.
