Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Ok, I know this is one of the less serious bugs, but still annoys me at least a few times every day.

I like using Scribble Objects to add headings and small descriptions to things. A lot of times I have to group things together, rearrange and so on. Like a lot of us who are making GH patches, which are used by others, I like making things tidy and properly labelled and color coded.

So one thing I noticed is that if you either select a bunch of components AND a scribble or just a bunch of scribbles and then try to drag everything by clicking and dragging on the scribble, it deselects everything and only moves that scribble. On any other component I can drag any one of them and it moves everything that is selected.

Unrelated:

Also while talking about scribbles: Can they have a different color? And please can we get a way to save swatches or for it to remember the last 10 or so I have used. I hate having to either manually try to match group/panel colours or typing values in all the time. Or the color picker should just pick the actual color attributes and not just the visible color. And also it should be possible to change the color of more than one group/panel at the same time.

Thanks David, for considering some of this for GH2, maybe you have already. Its the last little gripes I have about the UI. And what would be amazing would be a "presentation mode" like in MAX, so you can just hide what you dont need to show and lock the patch from being edited. It just makes so much sense.

Just noticed you also cant align the scribble objects, which would be really useful.

It's also strange that shift+dragging a text scribble causes it to slightly rotate as you move it, instead of moving orthographically like every other element on the grasshopper canvas. Especially in bigger and more complicated definitions, scribbles are a great way to quickly navigate between different operations, so it would be great to see some updates for scribbles. The only workaround I currently have for moving scribble easily is to group them (even if just by themselves) and move the group rather than the scribble itself. Then ungroup it after you've already moved it.

The "rotate" drag behavior used to be the default until people complained and David made it orthogonal by default - but some folks still like the "tilted" appearance, so he left it in as Shift-drag behavior. And Armin - you can absolutely align the scribble objects.

My biggest gripe about scribbles is that you can't make them bigger than 100pt out of the box. But that's why I added extra control for scribbles in MetaHopper :-p

Hey Andrew,

Hm, strange, I could have sworn it wasnt letting me align them yesterday, and now its working!

I just gave Metahopper a little spin and its awesome! Finally being able to make some sort of reactive parts of the UI, like a panel changing color and so on. :)
