algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello, I want to create the effect that an object is moving a long a curved path, but sometimes it will go off the curve and sometimes come back to it.

Thanks!

Hi Mandy,

without seeing your ghx file I cannot tell you what's wrong. However, I think all you need is a Move (Translate) component, a starting point, a Vector2Pt, an object to move and a Point On Curve slider.

Thanks David, very helpful. This is what I wanted. However, how do I associate the object with the moving point?
Nvm, got the answer, thanks :)
If it is an object you have created in Rhino then you can select it in GH with a BRep Param Component and connect it to the G of the Move component. Point component that goes into the A input of the Vector2Pt component should be a point on the Referenced object where you want it to be connected to the curve. If you do not wish to see the original any more then switch the preview off on that component.

THANKS I HAVE BEEN DOIN THAT ONE WITH A VERY TIME AND MEMORY CONSUMING INTERPOLATIONS.

Hello,

Is there a way to move a point on a curve in a similar way to your reply to Mandy but as a defined distance as opposed to a slider.

Thanks!

Mat

I think I worked it out in a backwards way. I extended the original curve by negative the distance I needed and created a point from that.

Is there a nicer way of doing it?

Mat

I think so... just use the Curve > Analysis > Evaluate Length component.  You can just specify the length (curve units or normalized units) and it will return a point on the curve that is at that length.

This was very helpful but I need to move an object at two point along a curve similar to how a train follows a variably curved track. What would I add to this to make sure the object is oriented by two points along the curve as it moves?

Can you elaborate?  Maybe with a screenshot?  It would help to explain what you are asking for.

This bean like perimeter of the closet is what I need to figure how to create a track for to allow for a surface mounted sliding curved door to run along.

I want to simulate the fixed curved door panel moving along the track on two standoff pieces of hardware to figure out how offset the sliding door would need to be in order to clear the different curvatures of the closet body.
