Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello Everyone,

I have been trying to model a Hexagonal gradient pattern on the Hexagon surface with the parameter of halftone (reprographic technique). I achieved it by mapping a circle halftone or hexagon halftone png file in Rhino (shown in the image below), but it gave me output of raster on the surface instead of vector since its a mapping. I have following questions from the what i did in GH.

  1. How to apply a hexagonal gradient pattern(like halftone mapping) on a hexagonal surface as it does not belong to square grid as well as radial grid so its difficult to achieve the edges with continuous patterns particularly in my case.
  2. Is it possible to have a varying radii with out attractor line or point?
  3. How to convert a raster mapping in to vector curves or polylines in GH? Is there a way to do that?

Please help me to solve this problem. I have attached the 3dm file and ghx file along with this post.

Many thanks in advance.

Can somebody help me please?

Perhaps this is too quick and dirty, but with some tinkering could be close to what you want unless I am misinterpreting your question.

Oops just checked your definition and realized you want it on surfaces. Mine is 2d but simple to map. The patterns in the above definition are somewhat radial while yours are normal to polygon's segments.

Thanks your time and reply Erik.

I just have a question from your definition is it possible to convert the radial grid in to hexagonal grid parallel to the segments of hexagon. As my length of hexagonal side varies. So in certain cases if you inscribe a circle for the hexagon it doesn't actually fit in to the shape, it become an ellipse or an oval.

I came up with this question because radial grid is always concentric to the circle of the grid regardless of the shape it is placed. So the perforations cannot be compacted instead it follows one after the other.

I think I have explained my idea with out confusing. I have placed an reference image for the grids how i would like achieve it .

That's why i literally translated the steps how i did in rhino by surface mapping into grasshopper by extruding the edges of the polygon and culling away the pattern out of the triangulated boundary.

Much appreciate your help.
