Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I was trying to look inside a .gha plug in and tried to open it in notepad. i did not notice that the box was checked that said always use this program to open files of this type. now all my .gha files have notepad icons :( how do i get them back associated to grasshopper ? any ideas? I went to control panel > all control panel items > default programs> set associations and I see the .gha assocations I just cant seem to find grasshopper as a program to associate it with. :( Thanks

any ideas on this issue??? anyone? thanks!

Grasshopper isn't a program, but a plug-in, which is why it doesn't appear in any Windows list of installed programs. Also, if you did manage to set Grasshopper (or Rhino) as the default program, the files would at best get the icon associated with Grasshopper (or Rhino) which is not what you want.

Unfortunately Windows overrides file-type icon settings once a default program has been set by the user. You need to find a way to dis-associate any programs with GH files. You can use the GrasshopperRegisterExtensions hidden command to assign the correct icons to all Grasshopper related file types, but this command will not remove default program associations.

Ethan,

Please use regedit with :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\

Software\

Microsoft\

Windows\

CurrentVersion\

Explorer\

FileExts\

.gh or .ghx or .gha

Remove "UserChoice" Folder...

Best,

thanks! i hate to think my .gha files didnt know how who their gang was! appreciate the help. wont make that mistake again!!!
