Parametrically extruding a non-orthogonal perimeter block

Hi all, I'm trying to create a perimeter block. I've extruded a rectangular block and performed a Boolean difference on an orthogonal rectangle, but as soon as I try to make a non-orthogonal quadrilateral, the process fails. There's an obvious warning in the components but I can't figure out what the problem actually is. Anyone see what the issue is? Thanks guys.

You only need to rewire as red part looks like.

And also you should add the blue part.

Also you can simplify your def. by removing the front part.

Thanks Hyungsoo! I came to the same conclusion (or roughly similar) a few min ago (see attached). The first one was a mess. The reason for some of the extra components is that I want to be able to separate the block into four parts (or any given number) with spaces them. In the .3dm I have illustrated in Rhino what I mean. Obviously, I wasn't successful. Any thoughts?

I appreciate your help, it's really going a long way.

For the sake of completeness, I've added some cosmetics.

Hyungsoo you're a master. Time to study this file. Thank you!

This one is a different approach, only works well with  a quadrilateral shape.

 and slight modifications.

Thanks Hyungsoo, that's exactly what I've been struggling with. I'll work to integrate this. Thanks again for providing me with hours of study material, haha
