Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello Everybody.

Is there already a routine made to assign randomly 7 colours (already RGB defined by an artist I'm working with) to a bunch of hexogonal panels.

Or could you help me with this ?

Thank you

Emmanuel

The idea is in fact to sort randomly all the panels in 7 differents layers.

So when I bake in Rhino, i don't have to click on each panel to assign my materials for rendering

Baking with attributes isn't something Grasshopper does. But there are plugins that have advanced bake tools, specifically the Human Tools.

Hi Emmanuel,

For a (pseudo)random grouping of the panels this should work:

If you want to bake the objects with color (or other) properties you will need a plugin, as David suggested (Lunchbox has a very good bake component).

Otherwise you will have to manually bake each branch of the cells tree into a different layer.

Thx alot Nikos,

I'm nearly done.

What's the tool between Merge and Preview ?

Hi Emmanuel,

it is just a [Data] container (found in parameters tab/primitive group). It just helps to organize the definition. You could skip it and graft/simplify the output of [Merge] or the S input of [Preview].

Thx NIKOS

Thx all for your help.

Could you help to planarize the panels ? In order to offset the hexagons (for "dilatation joints")

Is Kangaroo and/or Heteroptera able to do it easily ?

As David points out you will need another plug-in to give your objects a layer to be baked to. I tend to use Andrew's Human plug-in.

But there is also another question in here which you may not be aware of. Do you require your textures to never be adjacent?

If so then you will need to use the Spiderweb plug-in. The latest version does not work with this problem so you will need to install the 3.2 version. Have a look at this Discussion: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/irregular-marble-floor-pa...

The attached file has both the Spiderweb example and the Human examples (2 different methods) in

Thx David,

There's no matter if the hexagons have adjacent same colors.

But your tool is really valuable!

In the end, I will unroll all the surfaces and give the canvas to the Artist i'm working with. She'll assign the colors where she wants ;)
