Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi All,

I'm working with a colleague on a C# script.

When trying to run his script on my machine i get the errors -

1. Before Solution exception:Could not load file or assembly '9b998724-20b9-4166-b51b-ac340f9eca4d.dll' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.

2. Solution exception:Could not load file or assembly '3c381786-84fb-4599-b4a5-ca426142a71e.dll' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.

3. After Solution exception:Could not load file or assembly 'dffda62e-b59e-4e76-84fc-4aee01052e17.dll' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.

He wrote it running GH 0.9.0061.  I have tried it with 0.9.0056 and 0.9.0064 and both give me same error (I can't find v0.9.0061).  My older machine, which works, is running 0.9.0056.  ALso, not sure if this is relevant but i have no problem loading it on my old (and much slower) machine which is running Windows 7.  The new machine is running Windows 8.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

My guess is that Windows 8 isn't allowing Grasshopper to load the assembly it just compiled.

Are you running Rhino in administrator mode?

I was not running in admin mode but i just right clicked, tried it and that works.  Thanks David!

Is that normal that I should be running Rhino 5 in admin mode in Win 8? (I've just got a new machine that came with 8 installed).  Or is it recommended to downgrade and stick with Windows 7 for now?  (my user is of course set up as an administrator)

No it's not recommended. Ideally it would work with limited privileges, but clearly in Win8 that is no longer the case.

Hi David

I just received very similar error messages using a C# module (specifically Andrew Heumann's text explode script), but I'm on Win7. Perhaps there was an update Microsoft pushed through recently, as I remember using this recently without errors....?

The run as admin hack works, but I assume it's not good practice.

Hi David

Any updates on this? I've also found when running Rhino+Grasshopper as Admin I also can't drag and drop clusters or grasshopper files from Explorer onto the Grasshopper window...

I encountered the same problem. However I found a solution may work.

1. go to this directory C:\Users\xxxYourUserName\AppData\Local

2. right click Temp\ and change Properties>Security>Everyone permission into Full Control.

It works for me!
