Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

is there a similar comoponent in grasshopper to rhinos flowalongsrf?  seems that baking my hexagonal components into rhino then using this "flowalongsrf" command is the only way to properly get these hex components to conform to a doubly curved surface.  this way my attractor point would still work.  any suggestions?

box morph,

search around the forum there are a lot of examples
Have you tried "Orient"?

@robert,
i tried using the box morph but im using a 3d component not just a spline i need to project to a surface. the box morph used the backside of the component to map onto the surface, i couldnt get it to map at the center like the "flowalongsrf" command does.

@evert
i'll have to give that a shot later on today, just by looking at it it seems to be pretty identical to the rhino command.

i actually ended up using a rhinoscript i found online here: http://www.supermanoeuvre.com/blog/?p=223

it takes a surface and panels it with either hexagonal curves or surfaces. i used the curves and brought them into grasshopper where i applied my scaling, point attractors, and loft.

i attached my files for you to have a look. the only other thing id like to attempt doing is putting that rhinoscript into a vb component so i can just keep all the curves within grasshopper, not having to bring them in from rhino

one thing i did notice is that the hexagons deform with the surface so not all of them are the same dimensions, you can tell where they scale in one direction. still works pretty well though and gives you the ability to contain these components within boundary walls.

I'm not sure if I understand what you want. Can you post a sketch I think I might be able to help you.

This was a fair extensive discussion a while back:
