In a heartbreaking incident, a 12-year-old child in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, lost their life due to rabies, highlighting the consequences of delayed medical attention. The unfortunate event traces back to July when the child was bitten by a dog while visiting their grandmother in the Uzgen district. It was not until September 20th that the child was brought to Osh City Children's Hospital, complaining of hydrophobia, which was later diagnosed as rabies.
Muzafar Ahmedov, the head of the disease prevention department at Osh City Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance, revealed that the critical delay in seeking medical help allowed the disease to manifest clinically. Ahmedov emphasized the importance of timely rabies prevention and the need for immediate medical attention following animal bites. In response to this tragic incident, Osh has declared a month-long rabies prevention campaign to raise awareness about this perilous disease among the local population.
