algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hey guys,
Is it possible to have dynamic u-values in E+?
If I create a material with a certain conductivity and a schedule, that accounts for the changes in the conductivity over the year, how do I get E+/the honeybee components to couple the two?
If not does somebody have an alternative suggestion to account for the changes of the u-value?
Thanks!,
/Christian

This is a very interesting question and I don't know the answer to it. One of my students is currently working on a connection between Grasshopper <> WUFI and he needs a similar process. I think the right place for get an answer for this is unmethours.com. I posted the question there and we'll see if anyone can help us with this: https://unmethours.com/question/13279/change-u-value-of-constructio...
Thanks for the help and reposting the question.
Btw I have found some errors in the code of some of your components. Is there a place I can send/post a description of the errors?
Sure! You can post them on github as an issue (https://github.com/mostaphaRoudsari/Honeybee/issues/new) and we will get back to you as soon as we can. You can search through the current issues and see if someone else has already reported them (https://github.com/mostaphaRoudsari/Honeybee/issues). Thanks.
Christian,
That's a very good question that I have also wanted to know the answer to for some time. The only thing that I know might get close to addressing your issue is modeling insulated blinds with a dynamic schedule:
For just modulating the U-Value of a typical wall or window construction, it seems like you will have to go with the intense EMS option that Jeremy mentions on Mostapha's unmet-hours post. I have wanted such a feature to help me more accurately model operable windows that are in an open vs closed state. If I end up developing anything to help with an EMS workflow like this, I will let you know.

Christian,
I was browsing through the EnergyPlus reference and I realized that there may be a simpler way to get a dynamic U-Value with this object:
http://bigladdersoftware.com/epx/docs/8-0/input-output-reference/pa...
I don't have time to fully test it out now but I would suggest looking there before going for the EMS option.

Chris, As far as I can see this case only works in case of using temperature as the trigger or am I missing something that you can modify it to be used in other cases?
Mostapha,
Yes, it seems to be only for temperature (not even a schedule). I get the sense that it is meant to be used to account for materials that change their properties with their temperature (like water/ice).
